Check-out of life and check-in to adventure as Tom passports around the world, discovering his inner compass, and leaving a trail of disruption as he works to improve poverty and literacy in his path.
Adventurous Travel Blog
Newly launched is an adventure travel blog containing co-author discussions of past, present and future travel escapades. Highlights of Tom’s 5 year journey are:
A Russian Winter, in the early 80’s Tom’s first international excursion was a study abroad school trip where he makes animal balloons and buys ice cream for the KGB agents following his travel group’s every move.
In A Day in Iraq, trouble befalls Tom as a casual visit to a Kurdish refugee camp finds him in the middle of an insurgence and becomes an overnight rescue.
Many Cuban Heroes is a true tale of Tom befriending Cuban refugees met in a Mexican hostel and his personal delivery of their letters to family and friends. He is welcomed like family in Cuban neighborhoods grateful for news of loved ones alive and safe, in Mexico.
While Tom awaits his Peace Corps assignment processing, he decides to volunteer in Guatemala. How To Plant a Forest talks about his creation of tree seed packets and instructions, recruitment of volunteer students and travelers, and under the direction of locals and non-profits, the re-forestation of a land so barren it has become non-productive to farm.
